Some call Berwyn the “City of Homes” in honor of its classic Chicago brick bungalows and Victorian "Painted Ladies." Others call it "Beautiful Berwyn" due to the tree lined streets and numerous parks. All of those that call it home appreciate the city's diversity, convenient location and affordability.
Berwyn is located eight miles west of Chicago's downtown, and is easily accessible by way of the Eisenhower (I-290) and Stevenson (I-55) Expressways, and Ogden Avenue, which is part of the historic Route 66. There is also good access to public transportation. The city is served by the BSNF Metra Line and Pace bus routes along Cermak Road, Harlem Avenue and Oak Park Avenue.
The well-known Vanguard MacNeal Hospital has served the community for over 100 years. The city also boasts a variety of shopping and services, with two vibrant and growing commercial districts. The Cermak Road corridor is an attractive boulevard with a wide range of stores, restaurants, and medical and office space, including popular national chains. Along both sides of the Metra tracks is the Depot District, which offers boutique stores and restaurants with a small town feel.
Recently, Berwyn has welcomed an influx of young professionals and first-time home buyers interested in urban living that is affordable and family-friendly. In turn, new restaurants and small businesses have sprouted up to serve the diverse tastes of residents and visitors alike.
