Forest Park bills itself as a town with “big city access and small town charm,” and it is easy to see why. Over 100 years old and an Illinois Main Street Community, the Village is located only 12 minutes from downtown Chicago and 20 minutes from O'Hare airport. Both the CTA Green Line and Blue Line begin in Forest Park. CTA buses on Madison and Pace Buses on Madison, Harlem and other major arterials provide additional transportation options for residents. Within minutes, residents can also access Metra Stations in neighboring Oak Park River Forest.
Forest Park's charming but busy downtown Madison Street has become a destination for young professionals who enjoy the impressive mix of new restaurants, shopping and art galleries.
Similarly, Forest Park's housing has become attractive for both families and young professionals with variety of offerings, including affordable single-family homes, brand new condominiums and townhomes, and also traditional brick two flats and three flats. Currently, over half of all properties in Forest Park are multifamily.
While Forest Park offers exceptional access to transportation and employment centers, the Village also takes great pride in being one of the "most walkable communities" in the entire region. Forest Park was one of four communities recognized in the 2012 Walk Friendly Communities, a national designation given to applicant communities who have demonstrated a true commitment to improving and sustaining walkability and pedestrian safety.
