Founded in 1881, the village of Maywood is conveniently located 10 miles west of downtown Chicago along The Eisenhower (I-290) expressway. Residents enjoy the proximity of city life combined with the natural beauty of the Des Plaines River and adjacent forest preserves. The village is also home to the Illinois Prairie Path, the nation's first “rail-to-trail” conversion project. The innovative 62-mile trail offers scenic biking, walking or jogging, and connects the western suburbs to DuPage and Kane Counties.
The village provides unmatched access to jobs. On the village's southern edge is one of the region's largest medical centers, which includes the nationally renowned Loyola University Hospital, as well as the Edward J. Hines Veteran's Administration (VA) Hospital and John J. Madden Medical Health Center. While the village is a job center in its own right, it also provides easy access to downtown Chicago and O'Hare Airport.
Maywood is proud of its longstanding legacy of diversity. Maywood has affordable options for seniors, first-time buyers and families with a variety of income levels. The village also offers a variety of classic architectural styles to choose from, including single-family homes in the Queen Anne and American Four Square styles. In fact, there are 18 national historic landmarks in the village, more than in any other west suburban community.
